A Study to Assess the Attitude regarding Online Learning Method among B.Sc. Nursing students in selected Nursing College’s of Navi Mumbai

ABSTRACT:
Aim: 1. To assess the attitude regarding online learning method among B. Sc nursing students. 2. To find out the association between attitude regarding online learning method with selected demographic variables. Material and method: The research approach and design were quantitative descriptive. The subjects were 220 students of B.sc Nursing and probability sampling method (systematic random sampling technique) was used for selection criteria. Data was collected using demographic data profile, attitude questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The overall result of present study states that it reveals that maximum 57.3% of age group belongs to 21-23 years. 84.1% of group belongs to maximum female category. 39.5% of group belongs to fourth year class is maximum. 35.9% of family monthly income was less than (10001-20000). 72.3% of students resident in urban area. Education status of father was 40.9% and mother 44.1% belongs to secondary (5th to 10th). 73.2% students are day scholar and 97.3% students are using android device. 80.5% are using mobile broadband and 37.3% are using zoom platform. It was found that attitude level regarding online learning method reveals that majority 94.5% were having neutral attitude with mean 124.43, and SD 12.66. There is no significant association between attitude level with selected demographic variables regarding online learning among nursing students.

INTRODUCTION:
Online learning can be described as ''The use of computer information that enhance learners' awareness, skills and Internet technology to provide a wide range of other outcomes. Getting advanced in communication and knowledge technologies and their impact on all aspects of human life, the globe is experiencing a new concept named information society. Therefore, online learning is a necessity to develop the quality of learning in this kind of society.
Students learning in Higher education undergone tremendous transformation since the age of Information and Communication Technology have emerged and became advanced. The traditional method of teaching is now dominating by the modern method of technologies and it is becoming easy to access for the teacher as well as students also.
Online learning can offer many advantages learning and performance-enhancing solutions" to colleges and students alike. Online learning allows universities challenge to teach the large numbers of nursing students, to become more digitized and leads to the development of online learning method while preserving the quality of their education, is the a virtual and knowledgeable society where learning and shortages of academic nursing staff, sharing can be done in an easy and fast way faculties.
This study will help to address the students to know the attitude towards online learning and to help them to opt the online learning system in their education. Students’ attitude towards online learning is influenced by its perceived advantages and disadvantages. The need for present study for online learning is to develop positive attitude among B.sc nursing students that would help us in a way of convince, enhancement in learning, innovation, outreach, availability of maximum physical resources, and to develop higher retention in students that would minimize barriers in online learning method with the view to make standard guidelines in future for students.
ASSUMPTIONS:
The B.SC Nursing students may develop positive or negative attitude score regarding online learning method with selected demographic variables at 0.05 level of significance.
METHODOLOGY:
The research design was non-experimental descriptive survey and approach was a quantitative. The subjects were 220 students of B.Sc Nursing.
The study conducted with the aim to assess the attitude regarding online learning method among B. Sc nursing students, to find out the association between attitude regarding online learning method with selected demographic variables.
DESCRIPTION OF TOOL:
SECTION I:
This section includes 11 items on demographic data of sample such as age, gender, class of study, family income, area residence, educational status of father & mother, device used for online learning, availability of internet.
SECTION II:
This is of assessing the attitude regarding Online learning method. The modified standard questionnaire was developed based on to identify the attitude regarding online learning method. All the positive statement strongly agree 5, agree 4, undecided 3, disagree 2 and strongly disagree 1points will be assigned but for negative statements strongly agree 1, agree 2, undecided 3, disagree 4 and strongly disagree 5, minimum score is 40 and maximum score is 200.
VARIABLES:
Research variables:
Attitude regarding online learning method.
Demographic variable:
In this study demographic variable refers to age, gender, class of study, family income, area residence, educational status of father & mother, device used for online learning, availability of internet, platform used for learning.
SETTING OF THE STUDY:
The investigator conducted the study in selected B. Sc nursing colleges at Navi Mumbai.
Population:
B. Sc nursing students of Navi Mumbai.
Sample:
sample consisted of second, third and fourth-year B. Sc nursing students of Navi Mumbai who are fulfilling inclusion criteria.
Sample size:
The pilot study was conducted on 27 students of second, third and fourth-year B. Sc nursing and the main study was performed on 220 students of second, third and fourth year B.sc Nursing.
Sampling technique:
Probability systematic random sampling method was used.
SAMPLING CRITERIA:
Inclusion criteria:
B. Sc nursing students who were,
1. Present during data collection.
2. Students who had undergone with online learning method.
Exclusion criteria:
1. B. Sc nursing students who are sick during the time of data collection.
2. Not willing to participate in study.
3. First year B. Sc nursing students.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION:
Ethical permission was taken from the institutional ethics committee. Formal permission was taken from the respective B. Sc nursing college’s principals of Navi Mumbai. Informed consent from the participant through online google form.
RESULTS:
A) Section – I (a):
Analysis of level of attitude regarding online learning method expressed in frequency and percentage
Result: Major finding of the B.Sc Nursing students attitude level regarding online learning method reveals that majority 94.5% were having neural attitude and only 5.5% were having unfavourable attitude and none of the participants were having highly favorable, favourable and highly favourable attitude.

Result:
The area wise attitude score that the highest mean percentage (66.33%) was found in the area of parent and teacher support with the SD 2.9, followed by 63.525 in the area of accessibility and flexibility with SD 2.46, in the area of intension it was 61.46% with SD 3.42, in the area of usefulness it was 61.42% with SD 2.95 and the minimal mean percentage 60.78% was found in the area of satisfaction with SD 5.17.

E) Demographic data:
Demographic data depicts that, there was total 220 second, third and fourth year B.Sc nursing students involved in study. It reveals that majority 57.3% of age group belongs to 21-23 years. 84.1% majority were female category. 39.5% of participants belongs to fourth year class is maximum. 35.9% of family monthly income category belongs to Less than (10001-20000) per month is maximum. 72.3% of students resident in urban area whereas 27.7% of students resident in rural area. Education status of father was 40.9% and mother 44.1% belongs to secondary (5th to 10th). 73.2% students are day scholar and 97.3% students are using android device. 80.5% are using mobile broadband and 37.3% are using zoom platform for online learning method. There was no association between attitude score regarding online learning method with selected demographic variables at 0.05 level of significance. Hence H01 hypothesis accepted.
DISCUSSION:
Similar study reviewed by Asha, Antony Aimemol, Mathew Akhila, Baby Anu, Sunny Anu (2017) conducted a descriptive study to check attitude towards Online learning among nursing students of selected nursing colleges of Mangaluru. Out of 100 respondents, majority 99% had showed favorable attitude level regarding the online learning, only 1% of sample had moderate attitude and 00% of them had unfavorable attitude. Overall mean attitude score obtained by respondent was 71.58.5 Similar descriptive study done by G. Rakhi, S. Kumar, Kaur S, Sharma R. on undergraduate nursing student’s attitude towards online classes. Finding of the study revealed that more than two third (76%) participants showed unfavorable attitude toward online classes. Overall mean score for attitude was 73.37+-23.52.
CONCLUSION:
The study revealed that, to develop positive attitude in terms to attain highly favourable attitude in online learning method students need to focus and work more on Accessibility and flexibility in online learning , Satisfaction need towards online method, Usefulness of study materials , Intention in learning , and Parent and teacher support, this determinant and skills also build up necessarily also to have less barriers in online learning method students need to develop and acquire Technical skill, avoidance of Physical/Environmental situation, Psychological / Social issues need to resolve, develop good Communication technique, and using of appropriate teaching learning method will be helpful.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The similar study can be conduct to assess the attitude score among non-medical graduate students who are taking online education.
2. This study can be conducted in school and junior college also to assess attitude of online learning method.
3. Descriptive study can be done by taking other research variable like either perception or knowledge regarding online learning method.
4. The study can include planned teaching programme or motivational lecture series to see the effectiveness and do it as experimental research.
5. A study can be conducted using other alternative methods or techniques like comparative study on assessing attitude of online learning method.
6. A explorative study can be conducted, to investigate students’ attitude towards online learning.
7. A qualitative study to explore medical students perspective toward sudden transition to synchronized online learning
